Springdale pays money owed for cash tickets

Written By Unknown on Senin, 17 September 2012 | 14.32

SALT LAKE CITY — The town of Springdale is reviewing how much money it owes after years of unrecorded and illegal traffic tickets which local police had foreigners pay in cash.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports Springdale has already paid about $7,200 in restitution to the state and the Hurricane Justice Court, which adjudicates Springdale cases.

State auditors reported in June that the town failed to record some traffic citations and forward a percentage of the fines to the state and the justice court.

Springdale Town Manager Rick Wixom says the town council has asked for an accountant to review tickets written since 2005 to determine whether more money is owed.

The Utah Attorney General's Office is also investigating whether there was any criminal wrongdoing in the ticket practice.
