CENTERVILLE — The city has to dig deeper than originally planned for a well at Chase Lane and Main Street, and this will increase costs.
The project cost was estimated to be $306,000.
Assistant City Manager Blaine Lutz said it is not known how much the added depth will affect costs.
Right now, the well is 400 feet deep and was planned for 450 feet. However, it could require a depth of around 600 feet. The deeper well is needed because of what has been found — or not found — so far.
"We have not found the aquifer formation that we want yet," Lutz said. "We thought we would have found it by now, based on wells in the area."
Once that is found and the well is complete, Lutz said, residents in the north and south will have a new water source.
The new well will replace the two older ones in the city.
Plans are for the well to be finished in the next two to three months.
