KAYSVILLE — Everyone knows the defending state 5-A champion Darts are loaded.

Syracuse High saw that talent firsthand Tuesday with two-time defending Region 1 champion Davis dominating the suddenly-sputtering Titans 25-17, 25-18, 25-14 in only 59 minutes.

"This was our best match in region play," said Darts senior outside hitter Camille Walker. "We had three consistent sets today. We have been working on talking and communicating more. We worked together better as a team."

The Darts (22-1 overall, 3-0 league) rang up 17 aces with just seven service errors.

"Our whole team served really well and I don't think we've had that many aces in a match," said the 17-year-old Walker. "That's a good ratio to have. We were serving aggressively, which kept them on their toes.

"We work on serving every day in practice. This is the best we've served this season," she said. "Our passing was a lot better. We put a lot of balls away and we were being aggressive. We like three-set sweeps."

Walker, who has verbally committed to BYU, had eight kills, one block assist, four digs and five aces. Weber State commit Tanisha Langston had four kills, one solo block, four digs and one ace; Idaho State commit Marissa Todd had four kills, one assist, six digs and four aces; Jessica Richardson had two kills and one dig; setter Kendall Sargent had 12 assists, one dig and four aces; and setter Jamie Selleneit had five assists, one dig and three aces for Davis.

"At the start of the season and coming from different club teams, it was difficult coming together as a team," Walker said. "We're more confident on the floor now, knowing where each other is going to be.

"I'm more comfortable being outside this year — I liked playing setter a year ago to help the team — where I don't doubt myself playing that position," she said.

The Titans' Kara Mudrow had 11 kills and one block; Maggie Hansen had 10 kills; Hanna Anderson had four kills and four blocks; and Maddi Bitton had four kills for Syracuse (13-9, 0-3).

"Winning region again is our immediate goal, but it's one match at a time," Walker said. "We can't look too far ahead over what needs to be done now. We know we're a target and everybody wants to beat the defending state champion. We're a new team with new talent."
